A USB dongle with an RJ45 socket on the end. Plug it into a laptop, plug a network cable into it, and you are on a wired connection — no drivers to hunt down on most machines, nothing to configure.
Wi-Fi is convenient until it is not. A wired connection does three things Wi-Fi cannot reliably do:
It stays put. No dropouts mid-call, no renegotiating when someone opens the microwave.
The latency is lower and, more importantly, it is consistent. That matters for video calls, remote desktop and gaming far more than raw speed does.
It does not care how many neighbours you have. In a block of flats at 7pm, a cable is the difference between working and not.
And a lot of thin laptops no longer have a network port at all, which is the usual reason people end up buying an ethernet adapter in the first place.
Three things have to line up, and this ethernet adapter is only one of them.
→ Not sure which you need? Tell us your plan speed and what you are plugging into, and we will tell you which version to buy — including when the cheaper one is the right answer.
Beyond the headline speed, this usb ethernet adapter handles the things that matter on a real network:
These are not marketing words. Auto crossover is why you can plug this into anything with an RJ45 socket and have it work; EEE is why it does not run warm on a laptop battery.
USB-A for most laptops, desktops, docks and older machines.
USB-C for thin laptops, tablets and anything modern that has dropped the rectangular port.
Pick the one your machine actually has. If you have both, USB-A is the safer bet on desktops and USB-C on anything slim — and if you are not sure, send us the model.
Stocked in Melbourne, not drop-shipped with a three-week wait. Order before 10am and it ships the same day via Australia Post with tracking and insurance, backed by our 90-day warranty.
And by a team who will ask what your connection actually runs at before selling you the faster one. Paying more for 2.5Gbps on a 100Mbps plan buys you nothing — we would rather tell you that than take the extra ten dollars.

Plugs into:
Operating systems: Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 · macOS · ChromeOS · Linux · most builds of Android and iPadOS that support USB networking.
Plugs into your network via: any Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7 or Cat8 cable, into a router, modem, switch, wall socket or patch panel. Auto crossover detection means the cable type and direction do not matter.
⚠️ For the full rated speed you need a USB 3.0 port or better. A USB 2.0 port caps the whole connection at 480Mbps — below gigabit, let alone 2.5Gbps. Look for the “SS” marking, or a blue insert on older machines.
⚠️ And the network has to keep up. A 2.5Gbps adapter on a 1Gbps router runs at 1Gbps; on a 100Mbps connection it runs at 100Mbps. The adapter never becomes the fastest thing in the chain by itself — tell us your plan speed and we will say which version is worth buying.
Backwards compatible with 10, 100 and 1000Mbps equipment, so older switches and sockets work normally.
