If your watch has stopped charging, a replacement fitbit sense charger is the cheapest thing to rule out first — and nine times in ten it is also the answer. The clip wears out long before the watch does, and the symptoms look alarming enough that people assume the worse thing.
Two minutes of checking saves buying the wrong thing.
It is almost certainly the cable if the watch charges only at one particular angle, or only while you press the clip against it, or if it starts and stops when the cord is nudged. That is a broken conductor or a worn contact, and no amount of restarting the watch will fix it.
Try this before you order anything: wipe the four contacts on the back of the watch case with a dry cloth. Sweat and skin oil build an invisible film across them over months of wear, and a watch that will not take a charge is surprisingly often just dirty. Then try a different USB port — a wall plug rather than a laptop — to rule out the source.
It is more likely the watch if nothing happens on a known-good lead, from a known-good plug, with clean contacts. At that point a charger for fitbit sense is not the fix, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one.
It charges the watch at the speed the watch charges. Charge rate is set by the watch’s own power management, not by the lead, so nothing plugged into the other end fills a Sense any faster. Any charging cable promising rapid charging on a watch of this kind is describing something the watch will not permit.
It is not wireless either. The Sense charges through four physical contacts on the back of the case, held against matching pins by a magnet — so no charging pad will work with it, whatever the pad claims.
And it is charge-only. No data crosses a Fitbit charging contact, so this is not a lead for syncing or moving files.
The magnet does the aligning; the moulded housing sets the angle and holds it there. Between them they decide whether a watch left on charge overnight reads 100% in the morning or still reads 3% — which is the commonest complaint about this connector, and always a seating problem rather than a power one.
The other thing that matters is the join where the cord enters the clip. That is the few millimetres that flex every time the watch is lifted off one-handed, and it is where these leads give out. On a fitbit sense charging cable at this price, the clip and the strain relief behind it are the whole story; the braid is not.
USB-A at the far end, so it runs from any wall plug, laptop port, power bank or car socket already in the house. Nothing proprietary, and nothing to install.
This clip is shaped for one watch. If yours is a different model in the Fitbit range, ask before ordering rather than after — a charger for fitbit sense is a specific fit, and Fitbit has used several patterns over the years.
