A garmin forerunner charger is the small sprung clip that grips the back of the watch and holds four gold pins against four gold contacts. There is no socket on the watch and nothing screws in — the clip is the whole mechanism, and when the one that came in the box is lost in a hotel room this is the part that replaces it.
This is the four-pin clip used across a particular slice of the Garmin range, and it is not the universal Garmin connector. It fits the Forerunner 30, 35, 230, 235, 630, 645, 645 Music and 735XT, the Approach G10 and S20, the Lily, and the vívomove HR.
It is not the Fenix clip and it is not the newer four-pin flat connector. Garmin has used several charging designs across its range, and a garmin forerunner charger from this family will not grip a Fenix, an Instinct or a current Forerunner. The way to tell is the back of the watch: this family has four small round contacts in a line with a shallow recess for the clip arms.
Two sprung arms close over the case and locate in small notches on each side. Press the arms, drop the watch in, let go — it holds by spring tension and by the notches, not by friction and not by a magnet.
⚠️ It is not magnetic. If a listing for a garmin forerunner charger says it snaps on magnetically, that listing is describing a different watch. Garmin has never used a magnet on this connector.
The other end is ordinary USB-A, so a laptop, a wall plug, a car charger or a power bank all work. The clip carries data as well as power, which means it also does a wired sync through Garmin Express if the watch is being set up or restored rather than just topped up.
Charging a Forerunner from flat takes a couple of hours on this garmin forerunner charging cable, the same as the clip that came in the box. Nothing about a replacement garmin forerunner charger makes a watch charge faster, and a 65W plug will not change that — the watch sets the rate, not the supply.
The Garmin Lily takes this same clip, and it is worth saying out loud because most replacement listings never mention it. A Lily owner searching for a garmin lily charger finds products built around the Forerunner name and has no way to tell whether theirs is covered.
It is. Same four pins, same spring arms, same notches — a garmin lily charger and this garmin forerunner charger are the same object.
The clip is about the size of a thumbnail and lives loose in a bag. A garmin forerunner charger is the single most-lost accessory in the whole Garmin range, which is why most people buying a garmin forerunner charger already own one somewhere.
That makes a spare garmin forerunner charger worth more than its price. One at home, one in the work bag, and a flat watch stops ruining a run.
Moulded plastic body, four gold-plated spring pins, and a strain-relief collar where the cable leaves the clip. The pins are the part that eventually fails — they get sweaty, they corrode, and the charge becomes intermittent before it stops. A dry cloth on both the pins and the watch contacts fixes most “won’t charge” complaints on a garmin forerunner charging cable that has had a hard year.

Compatible with:
How it attaches: a sprung clip with four gold pins closes over the back of the watch and locates in a notch on each side. Press the arms, seat the watch, release.
How to check before you order: turn the watch over. This family has four small round contacts in a line with a shallow recess for the clip arms on each edge. A watch with a flat four-pin pad and no recess takes a different Garmin cable.
What it plugs into: any USB-A port — laptop, wall charger, car charger or power bank.
What it also does: wired sync through Garmin Express, not charging alone.
This is an aftermarket accessory, not a genuine Garmin product. Garmin, Forerunner, Approach, Lily and vívomove are trademarks of Garmin Ltd, used here only to describe fitment.
