A Garmin Vivosmart charger is a sprung clamp, not a magnet and not a cradle. The jaws open, the band sits between them, contact pins meet the pads on the back of the module, and a spring holds the whole thing together while it charges. If the one you have has lost its grip or gone missing, this is the replacement.
This is the part worth reading before you order. The Vivosmart range did not use one charger. This page sells three Garmin Vivosmart charger variations, and they are not interchangeable:
The jaw width and the pin spacing differ between them. A Garmin Vivosmart charger bought for the wrong generation will open, close and sit on the band looking entirely correct, and it will not charge. Choose the variation that matches the model engraved on the back of your tracker, not the one that looks right in a photograph. The model name is printed in small type on the underside of the module, under the band, and it is the only reliable way to tell a Vivosmart 3 from a 4 by eye.
There is no magnet in a Garmin Vivosmart charger. Pinch the tail of the clip, the jaws open, you seat the module between them so the pins meet the contacts, and letting go does the rest. It is a plain mechanism with nothing to align and nothing to wear out but the spring.
The USB-A end of the Garmin Vivosmart charger goes into whatever supplies power — a laptop, a wall plug you already own, a power bank. The tracker draws a small steady current and stops when it is full, so there is no fast-charge standard involved and none would help: a Vivosmart battery is small enough that an hour or two fills it from anything.
The failure point on every clip of this kind is the neck where the cable leaves the body, which takes every bend when the clip is pulled off a desk by its cord. On this one the cable runs into a moulded neck rather than a butt joint, spreading that bend over a longer run.
The jaws are the other half of it. A clip that has gone soft holds the band loosely, the pins lose contact, and the charge stops halfway through the night — which is the usual reason a vivosmart hr charger gets replaced rather than the cable failing outright. Every vivosmart hr charger and Vivosmart clip here is moulded to keep its spring and hold the module square against the pins.
The Vivosmart is old enough that most of these have had years of daily use, and a tracker that will not charge is a tracker that stops being worn. A Garmin Vivosmart charger costs a fraction of replacing the band, and a second one kept at work or in a travel bag means a flat battery is never the reason the step count stops.
If you own the HR or HR+, the same applies — a spare vivosmart hr charger is the cheapest insurance there is against a tracker going quiet mid-week.
