A charging lead that lets a USB-C power supply run a Surface. USB-C plug at one end, the Surface’s own magnetic power connector at the other — so the charger you already carry for a phone or a laptop can charge the tablet too.
It is a cable, not a charger. There is no power supply in the box; this replaces the lead, not the brick.
This is the one thing that decides whether the cable works, and almost no listing says it.
A USB-C charger does not simply push power down the wire — it negotiates a voltage with whatever is plugged in. A Surface needs 15 volts. Plenty of USB-C chargers, especially the small 20W and 30W ones sold with phones, step through 5V, 9V, 12V and 20V and skip 15V altogether.
Plug this cable into one of those and nothing happens at all. No slow charge, no warning light, no error. It simply does not charge, and it looks exactly like a faulty cable.
→ What you need is a USB-C Power Delivery charger that lists 15V among its outputs, rated 45W or more. If you are not sure what yours does, the output ratings are printed on the body of the charger in small type — send us a photograph of that text and we will tell you before you order.
Two versions, and they are two physically different plugs — not two lengths.
They do not interchange. If you are not certain which you have, the year is the giveaway: anything from 2014 onwards is the later connector.
As a second charger for the bag, so the Surface and the phone and the laptop all run off one brick and one set of leads instead of three.
As a replacement when the lead has failed and the brick has not — which is the usual way round, because the cable is the part that gets coiled, yanked and trodden on.
On the road, where a single USB-C charger and a few leads weighs a fraction of what a proprietary Surface brick does.
That it charges as fast as the supplied power supply. A Surface Pro 7 with an i7 ships with a 65W charger; this route delivers less. It charges — it just may not keep up under heavy load while charging.
That it works with a Surface Pro 8 or later. Those charge over USB-C directly and do not need this cable at all — an ordinary USB-C charging cable will do.
Stocked in Melbourne, not drop-shipped with a three-week wait. Order before 10am and it ships the same day via Australia Post with tracking and insurance, backed by our 90-day warranty.
And by a team who will check your charger with you first. The 15V requirement catches people out constantly, and it is invisible until the thing fails to work — one photograph of the small print on your charger and we will tell you whether this will do the job.
Send us a picture of your charger’s output ratings, then order today.

Surface Connect version — Surface Pro 3 and later
Earlier connector version — Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2
Surface Pro 8 and later charge over USB-C directly. They take an ordinary USB-C charging cable and do not need this lead.
Other Surface devices — Surface Laptop, Surface Book, Surface Go and Surface Studio use Surface Connect on some generations and USB-C on others. Tell us the model and year and we will confirm before you order.
