A usb c extension cable for when the port is in the wrong place and the cable is thirty centimetres too short. USB-C plug at one end, USB-C socket at the other, in four lengths from one metre to three.
Let us be straight about this, because nobody else in this category is.
A USB-C extension is not part of the USB-C standard. There is no male-to-female USB-C cable defined in it, and no certification scheme covers one. That is true of every extension on the market, not just this one.
It is still the right answer a great deal of the time, because what most people plug in does not need the full width of the port.
What works without drama: charging at ordinary power, keyboards, mice, webcams, headsets, printers, card readers, hubs. Anything at USB 2.0 speeds simply works.
What gets worse as the cable gets longer: fast data transfers, and external SSDs in particular. The longer the total run, the more likely you are to see a slower speed rather than the full one.
What often will not work at all: a Thunderbolt or USB4 link. Those negotiate a very tight connection and an extension in the middle frequently stops them agreeing at all. If you are extending a Thunderbolt dock, talk to us first.
If a device does not work through the extension, flip the USB-C plug over and try again.
It is a known behaviour of USB-C extensions with older USB 2.0 devices: the device works in one plug orientation and not the other, or works when plugged straight in and not through the extension. Macs show it more often than Windows machines do.
A cable that works one way up and not the other looks exactly like a broken cable. It is not. Try the other orientation before you conclude anything — and if it still will not behave, tell us what you were plugging in and we will sort it out.
1 metre is the safe one. It is short enough that fast transfers stay fast and it covers most “the socket is behind the monitor” problems.
1.5 metres reaches the back of a desk or the far side of a laptop stand.
2 metres gets you from a wall-mounted screen or a desktop under the desk.
3 metres is for reach, not for speed. Use it for charging, a keyboard, a webcam or a hub — not for an external SSD.
⚠️ Remember the extension is added to the cable you already have. A 3-metre extension on a 1-metre cable is a 4-metre run, and that total is what matters.
A single data rate across all four lengths. The supplier quotes one figure for the whole range and we do not think that can be right — a one-metre extension and a three-metre extension are not the same electrical proposition. We have asked for the per-length numbers and we will publish them when we have them.
100 watts on every setup. A 100W link needs every cable in the chain rated for 5 amps. The supplier has not yet told us whether this extension is, so we will not promise it. Ask us and we will chase them.
That it will carry Thunderbolt. It very often will not, and no extension reliably does.
Stocked in Melbourne, not drop-shipped with a three-week wait. Order before 10am and it ships the same day via Australia Post with tracking and insurance, backed by our 90-day warranty.
And by a team who will tell you when an extension is the wrong answer. For a keyboard or a charger it is the cheapest fix there is. For a Thunderbolt dock or a fast external drive, a single longer cable is the better buy and we will say so — tell us what you are plugging in and we will tell you which you need.
Tell us what is going on the end of it, then order today.
Works reliably with:
Works, with speed depending on the total run:
⚠️ Thunderbolt and USB4 links frequently will not negotiate through any extension. If you are extending a Thunderbolt dock or a 40Gbps drive, tell us the setup first — a single longer cable is usually the right answer.
⚠️ If a device does not work through the extension, flip the USB-C plug over. With some older USB 2.0 devices a USB-C extension works in one orientation only, and Macs show this more often than Windows machines. It is a known behaviour, not a fault in the cable.
Hosts: any device with a USB-C port — Windows laptops and desktops, Mac and MacBook, Android phones and tablets, iPad, iPhone 15 and later, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, mini PCs and single-board computers.
The extension adds to whatever cable you already have. A 3m extension on a 1m cable is a 4m total run.
