A 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm adapter is a short metal barrel that lets a 2.5 mm plug meet a 3.5 mm socket. It is the smallest part in this catalogue and it solves a problem nothing else will.
A 3.5 mm plug at one end, a 2.5 mm socket at the other. So this 2.5 mm audio adapter takes a device with a 2.5 mm lead and connects it to anything with a standard 3.5 mm input.
⚠️ Direction matters and the two versions are not interchangeable. We stock the mirror image too — 2.5 mm plug into a 3.5 mm socket — and picking the wrong one leaves you with a part that physically cannot connect. The rule: name the plug you are holding, and the socket you are plugging into.
This is the part people get wrong.
Cordless and DECT phone headsets are the biggest group by a distance, and two-way radios and handhelds — Motorola, Baofeng and similar — use it constantly.
Older mobile phones and PDAs, and some camcorder remotes and microphone inputs, where 2.5 mm survived long after phones moved on.
⚠️ What it is mostly NOT is a headphone standard. Consumer headphones went to 3.5 mm decades ago, and balanced audio gear went to 2.5 mm briefly and then to 4.4 mm. If you are connecting headphones, check the plug first — 2.5 mm is probably not what you have.
Nothing, and that is the point. A passive barrel: two sets of contacts joined by metal, no circuitry and no power.
⭐ Which also means it cannot fix a mismatch it was not built for. Pole count carries through: if one end expects a microphone conductor and the other does not have one, a 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm adapter passes that difference along rather than resolving it. A headset that goes quiet through an adapter is usually a pole-count mismatch, not a fault.
Because the cable is usually not the problem. A headset that works perfectly with a 2.5 mm socket does not need replacing to reach a 3.5 mm one — it needs six dollars of brass.
And the lead is often not replaceable at all. On a cordless headset or a radio it is moulded in. A 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm adapter is the only route that does not involve buying the whole device again.
A spare in the radio bag is the other reason — small enough to lose, cheap enough to have two.
That it improves sound. A passive adapter carries the signal; it cannot better it. At this price, anything sold on audio quality is not there.
That it converts between pole counts. It does not — see above.
That it works in the other direction. It does not — the plug is 3.5 mm and the socket is 2.5 mm, and no 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm adapter works both ways round.

Takes a 2.5 mm plug and connects it to a 3.5 mm socket. There is no device list to match — the connectors are standards.
Plugs into any standard 3.5 mm socket — phone, tablet, laptop, amplifier, mixer, car stereo, portable recorder or in-flight entertainment.
⚠️ Direction. The plug is 3.5 mm and the socket is 2.5 mm. We stock the mirror image separately for the opposite case. Name the plug you are holding and the socket you are plugging into, and the choice is obvious — get it the wrong way round and the two parts physically will not meet.
⚠️ Pole count carries straight through. A passive adapter joins contacts; it does not rearrange them. If a headset’s microphone or button goes quiet through an adapter, the two ends are wired to different pole standards — tell us what you are connecting and we will say whether an adapter can bridge it.
