A lightning cable still runs a very large number of iPhones and iPads, and will keep doing so for years — Apple only moved to USB-C on the newest models, and the installed base behind that change is enormous.
Length is the main decision, and it is worth a moment’s thought. A 1m lead suits a desk or a bedside table; 2m reaches a couch or the back seat of a car without pulling the phone off the arm rest halfway through a trip.
The failure point on a lightning cable is almost always the moulding where the cable meets the plug, so a lightning charging cable with proper strain relief at both ends is the one that lasts. Braided jackets help for the same reason, and cost very little more.
